Basis

Our Basis services are the bedrock of our North East homeless support for people who are rough sleeping and have nowhere else to go.

At the heart of our Basis provision is are the charity’s drop-in resource centres in Gateshead and Sunderland. Through these we provide a community of support for everyone who walks through the door, drawing services and specialists together rather than expecting people to attend multiple appointments and repeat their devastating story over and over. And from here we do so much more.

Almost 2,700 people sleep rough each night across the UK

Our crisis services conduct early morning outreach to support people who are rough sleeping and run our 58:7 Project to meet the need for same-day emergency accommodation.

Our Housing First approach is put into action through Basis Beds, which provide housing for people in crisis through a number of flats in Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside.

During COVID-19 we rapidly re-mapped our Basis services to play our part the Everyone In North East homeless initiative that saw almost 40,000 people moved off the streets into temporary accommodation. Our Resettlement team has become integral to the delivery of our Basis services across the North East.

The team has been very supportive and helped me in ways unimaginable, and I can’t wait to also give back the support and kindness they offered me in my time of need.
