Alicia rebuilding her life with support from a regular gift

A moment to set up, a lifetime of impact for people like Alicia

“This is home now. My home. Our home. So, I’m putting everything I’ve got into it!”

When Alicia arrived at Oasis Community Housing, she was completely on her own, having grown up mostly in care.

At 18, she moved in with her aunt, but after her ex-boyfriend vandalised their home, she was asked to leave. Homeless, she was placed in a hotel before being referred to one of our supported flats in Gateshead.

With support from our team, Alicia began working towards stability, but her younger sister, Molly*, was never far from her mind. Molly was struggling in foster care and kept running away from her placement. Now that Alicia had support, she fought to keep her sister close.

“Molly was going to get moved miles away. So, I said, no, she can stay here.” Having grown up without stability herself, Alicia wanted something different for Molly. “I’m trying to save her childhood. Keep her a kid.”

The two shared Alicia’s one-bed flat until a two-bed became available; a home they could make their own. “This is home now. My home. Our home. So, I’m putting everything I’ve got into it!” Today, Alicia is building a home filled with care, boundaries and hope, giving Molly the stability she never had herself.

£5 a month could provide food and water for people sleeping rough, ensuring fewer people facing homelessness go hungry or thirsty.
£10 a month could fund vital support at our drop-in centres, including access to showers, laundry, clothing and a warm welcome from our team.
£20 a month could provide Move In Packs, giving someone the bedding, kitchen items and basic essentials they need to settle into their new home with dignity.
