Oasis Community Housing has appointed Sarah Gorman as its new charity CEO. The announcement comes as Sarah steps into post this week (3 November 2025).

Sarah, who was the homelessness charity’s first frontline worker and helped establish many of its early projects, now returns to lead Oasis Community Housing after 15 years as CEO at Edberts House, a Gateshead-based community-development charity.

Oasis Community Housing has been supporting men, women and young people facing homelessness through their crisis services, domestic abuse support and trauma-informed supported accommodation projects for over 40 years. The charity provides homelessness support across North-East of England and south London.

Sarah takes over from Sarah Lister, who has been Acting Chief Executive since former CEO David Smith was elected as a Member of Parliament in the July 2024 General Election. Sarah Lister will return to her substantive role as Oasis Community Housing’s Chief Operating Officer.

Oasis Community Housing’s Chair of Trustees, Nick Salisbury, said, ]“I’m delighted to welcome Sarah Gorman back to Oasis Community Housing as our new charity CEO.

“Sarah joins us at a crucial time, as we respond to rising need and continue supporting 1,300 people on their journeys out of homelessness each year. The Board is deeply grateful to Sarah Lister for her steady leadership as interim CEO – and we look forward to working with Sarah Gorman, our dedicated staff team, and incredible partners and supporters to take the charity’s life-changing work forward.”

Oasis Community Housing’s new CEO, Sarah Gorman, said, “Since my first role, working with people experiencing homelessness at a church in central London, I’ve always been passionate about helping people reach their full potential — building trust and genuine relationships with people.

“I’ve loved growing Edberts House and working with such a fantastic team, and I’m so excited about the opportunity to return to Oasis Community Housing to work together on how we can not only best support people facing homelessness, but focus on ways of preventing it in the first place.”
