New official figures reveal that rough sleeping hits record high of 4,793 people, marking the highest level since the national snapshot count began in 2010.

Responding to the news, Sarah Gorman, Oasis Community Housing Chief Executive, said:

“These latest rough sleeping figures – the highest on record – must be a wake-up call. Behind every number is a person facing the dangers of life on the streets.

“They emphasise the need to turn the Government’s National Homelessness Strategy into urgent, coordinated action. We need to see the promised investment translated into stronger prevention, better mental health support, and a clear end to people being discharged from hospital or prison with nowhere to go.

“This homelessness crisis is not inevitable. With committed delivery across Government, and genuine collaboration with councils and charities, we can hope to end rough sleeping for the 4,793 facing another cold, lonely night without a roof overhead.”

The government figures shows that rough sleeping increased slightly year‑on‑year from 4,667 in 2024, with regional variations including a significant rise in the North East and North West.

The figures are based on an UK-wide count on a single night in autumn 2025 – which Oasis Community Housing contributed to – estimating the number of people to be sleeping on the streets.
