Step into Spring
18 February – 4 April 2026
“At our drop in, one of the hardest parts is watching them walk out of the door and not knowing where they will sleep and if they will be ok!” Dave, project lead Basis Sunderland Homeless Drop-in Centre
From walking throughout the night to avoid danger and stay warm, to accessing support services and attending appointments – people facing homelessness will often walk for miles every day.
This Lent, why not take on ‘Step into Spring’ to help bring hope and a brighter future for people experiencing homelessness in 40 days.
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3 to get involved in Step into Spring:
Step 1: Sign up and choose your walking target.
You can do whatever you like! You could:
- Gather a group of friends and go on a hike for homelessness – here are a few great ones!.
- Walk 10,000 steps a day.
- Take a walk every day without headphones, screens, coffee or distractions.
Step 2: Smash your target during the 40 days of Lent (18th February – 2nd April)
Get walking and complete the challenge!
Throughout the challenge you’ll also receive a weekly Lent reflection to help push you on as well as take a moment to reflect on what you’ve achieved.
“I did the challenge with my Wife who doesn’t walk as much anymore, but she found the challenge accessible and manageable. I have found the reflections great, really encouraging.”
John, 2025 challenge participant
Step 3: Raise vital funds to support people facing homelessness
We’re asking everyone who gets involved to try and raise at least £100 to bring hope to people facing homelessness, and here’s why…
Raising £100 could provide someone with a moving-in pack, helping them to settle into their new home as we journey with them out of homelessness. Your support is invaluable to us as it enables us to walk alongisde the people we support as they journey out of homelessness.
